Best Horror Films of 2018 (many of which you probably missed)

A recent, laughable Vogue article (because clearly they are experts in horror films) got it all wrong a couple months back, when they complained that the horror genre was dead-in-the-water this year.  On the contrary, 2018 has been one of the best years for the genre yet, which brought us many harrowing, immersive looks inside disturbing family trauma narratives, women and men seeking revenge, secretive serial killers, and a haunting coven of witches, just to name a few.  If you missed a few of these because you were bombarded by the all-consuming Halloween (2018) and A Quiet Place press coverage this year, catch up on these quieter greats before the year is up.  Many of these were not seen nor talked about nearly enough as they deserved to be.  2018 has been exceptionally good to us.

“The Endless” is trippy, intelligent, poetic, and often confusing…but it’s not for lazy audiences

You know that one girl on your Instagram feed…probably named Ashley or the like…the one that makes her own therapeutic “aromatherapy” products (that she cons certain gullible middle aged women into purchasing), grows all of her own organic foods and “medicines,” (aka she’s a witch doctor), and swears that spiritualism lies within “meditation” and yoga? Imagine a whole, entire hipster cult of that annoying girl- but throw in some UFO-believing men too, that try to convince their followers that suicide is an ideal option for their situation?  That is what kind of people you are watching in The Endless– except it is told in a much more artistic and intelligent way than annoying Ashley’s Instagram feed, and you realize that this spiritual cult is actually on to something here…

The Endless (2018)

2017 was truly incredible for our favorite red-headed stepchild genre, aka horror, as we witnessed some masterpieces like Get Out receive not only great numbers at the box office and critical acclaim, but even Golden Globe nominations…so 2018 has some huge shoes to fill.  From the looks of things as of now, 2018 will have its share of things that I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT for…as well as a couple that look laughable, that I will likely skip, but others may enjoy.  Here are some of the horror pieces to look forward to (and a few to probably not waste your money on) coming out this year, in order of their releases.
